When couples decide against a traditional wedding format, it opens up a space of absolute creative freedom. You stop thinking in terms of photoshoots and time slots and start focusing entirely on creating an experience.

A traditional wedding with a hundred guests is often a high-adrenaline rush. It is a massive cocktail of excitement and stress. When I look back at my own wedding, I realize exactly what many couples admit later: the day passed in a blur. It leaves you with memory gaps and very few physical trigger points to take you back to specific moments.

An elopement works entirely differently. By stripping away the audience, you anchor yourselves in the present. You create a secret space that belongs only to the two of you. Decades from now, you can return to that exact spot. The smell of the ocean or the taste of the local wine will immediately trigger the exact emotion of your wedding day. It is a profound, sensory investment in your future memories.

Choose the Vibe

Choose the Vibe Before the Venue

Please! Most couples start their planning by frantically searching for the perfect villa or a famous backdrop. We do the exact opposite. Before we look at locations, we need to define your intention.

I start by asking what defines the two of you. Are you an adventurous couple looking to hike a mountain at dawn to share your vows? Or do you prefer a modern, editorial approach, exploring a historic city, seeking out authentic food, excellent wine, and hidden architectural gems?

The Golden Rule

KEEP IT SYMBOLIC

This is the single most important piece of advice for any destination elopement: Keep the legal paperwork at home.

I will never judge which type of wedding is better. Whether you choose to have a large party later or a simple civil signing in your hometown is entirely up to you. But for your European elopement, I highly recommend a symbolic ceremony.

Disconnecting the legal bureaucracy from your destination experience removes a massive layer of stress. You get to focus purely on the experience and your connection, exactly the way you envisioned it.

Build a team that understands your vision

A cinematic elopement is not just about showing up in great outfits. Depending on your concept, you will want to bring in dedicated professionals who elevate the experience. A talented hair and makeup artist, a florist for  floral designs, a celebrant to guide your vows, or even a drone operator and videographer to capture the scale of your destination. Every single one of these vendors has their distinct purpose.

If your elopement scales up into a multi-day event or the logistics become heavily complex, I always advise hiring a  destination wedding planner. Bringing a planner on board ensures that while I focus entirely on directing and capturing your visual story, the background mechanics of your day run flawlessly.
